Birmingham's Vicar of Digbeth The Revd Lorraine Dixon, who DJs, wearing her dog collar, as DJ Ayo organised the Christmas Aftermath at the Irish Club, High Street, Digbeth just outside Birmingham City Centre as part of her Taste and See Project. Taste and See is about finding a new way of encountering God through a passion for dance music.
Lorraine says: "Dance culture puts many people on a spiritual journey and goood music can be very uplifting. We have to follow God into new places and that could be a club that's off the hook at 3 am grooving to the wickedest sounds."
She was joined for the gig by another Birmingham priest, the Revd Lee Hills who VJed for the night. Lee was ordained in the summer of 2006 and is Deanery Missioner for Aston. He has his own website at www.djvicar.co.uk
Lorraine joined the Birmingham Diocese in September 2005 and is Deanery Missioner to Young Adults in Yardley and Bordesley Deanery.
The gig also raised money for Stop the Traffik and Martha's Oasis, a charity based in Ladywood.
You can watch an interview with Lorraine at http://www.bbc.co.uk/birmingham/content/articles/2007/01/03/minister_of_sound_feature.shtml or read press cuttings about the gig at www.tasteandseethelight.org.uk |
