NEWS FROM BRF - Web-based learning: no longer a specialist interest
22 February 2007

As Internet-accessed learning becomes more widespread, one of the newest offerings – nine-month old Foundations21 from BRF – is reportedly being taken up by both solo learners and groups, by users from all generations and traditions and by new as well as experienced Christians.

The flexibility of the Foundations21 Virtual Learning Environment – so called because it is so much more than a series of static screens, opening up, as it does, a world of more than 7,500 web links, over 6 hours of video material, maps, an online journal and over 3,500 web pages of content – is proving a great draw. General Manager of BRF, Karen Laister, says: “You can take it up when you have time: at home, in the lunchhour at work, seriously academically or just dipping in and out.

“A subscriber told us, ‘Foundations21 offers structured learning but also proposes links which I would never have come across just by net-surfing.  So when I have the time to pursue these trains of thoughts I do – and often find something really significant for my personal spiritual journey.’

“We’ve also made sure that those who choose to explore alone don’t have to be isolated – a chat room and bulletin boards are integral to the package, so that subscribers can share with other users if they wish; some users have a mentor or ask us for help in finding a face-to-face Foundations21 group in their locality.”

Foundations21 is currently being offered with a “try before you buy” 45-day deal for £7.99.  A broadband internet connection is desirable, but not essential, to run it. If you’d like to know more or get a free introductory DVD – visit www.foundations21.org.uk or call 01865 319700 for the Foundations21 newsletter.
