We hope to introduce guidelines on fonts, design and logos in the near future.

Meanwhile the Church of England website has advice for parishes thinking about new signs or stationery. Visit their website for details.

Please contact me if you need help finding a designer for a website or any other publication.

Below are some very basic layout and communication tips. www.getyourchurchnoticed.com  is also full of helpful advice.

  • The audience is key to good communication – they are more important than you, your style and your message.
  • Tools like powerpoint etc do not replace the need for good communication skills such as clear and paced speech, eye contact and the occasional smile or joke.
  • Encourage as much feedback as possible. If people contribute to a talk or discussion they will remember far more about it.

Guidelines for Written Communication – Powerpoint and Word documents etc.

  • Keep it simple – don’t use more than one serif font and one sans serif font on a page. It will look too jumbled. Use bold and italics for emphasis.
  • Make sure you keep things aligned – if you have columns make sure the alignment is carried right across the page including the title and masthead if possible
  • Use brave contrasts of size. 12 point and 14 point just clash. 12 point and 20 point contrast strongly.

DON’T OVERUSE CAPITALS FOR EMPHASIS – THEY ARE HARDER TO READ.
