Throughout
his ministry
Jesus was
clear about
whom he was,
where he
was going
and what
he had to
do. As we
seek to reveal
something
of the love
of God throughout
the network
of churches
across the
Diocese of
Birmingham
we encourage
parishes
to think
strategically
and answer
for themselves
four simple
questions
to get them
started:
- Why
does
your
church
exist
today?
- What
is
God calling
your
church
to
be?
- What
might
God be
calling
your
church
to
do?
- How
are
you going
to achieve
it?
To help
this process
along, we
encourage
all parishes
to explore
the possibility
of working
out a Mission
Action Plan
(MAP) for
themselves.
Mission Action
Plans will
vary from
parish to
parish according
to size of
church, location,
church tradition,
current ministry
and aspirations
for mission.
In essence,
a MAP will
provide a
local church
with a framework
that will
grow and
change as
their mission
and ministry
develop.
Called to
a New Kingdom
invited parishes
across the
Diocese to
grow in their
confidence
to:
- Live
and
speak
more
confidently
- Discover
Christ
at
the heart
of local
community
- Break
new
ground
- Become
better
equipped
- Prune
for
new life
Mission
Action Plans
can help
a church
grow in these
five areas,
but more
importantly
a MAP can
help a parish
develop an
integrated
framework
to help deliver
their hopes
and aspirations
in a way
that encourages
and affirms
what is going
on.
Many
parishes
include Mission
Action Planning
(or equivalent)
as an ongoing
part of parish
life. This
is not ‘yet
another Diocesan
structure’ but
rather a
tool to help
local congregations
grow.
The
Forum for
Mission & Evangelism
is working,
on behalf
of the Bishop,
with parishes
across the
Diocese to
help them
develop their
own Mission
Action Plans
and move
forward in
realising
their potential
for mission.
